Herbert C. Grieser

Herbert C. Grieser, age 79 years, of Archbold, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 1, 2008, at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold, where he had resided since May 14, 2004.

He was born Nov. 26, 1928, near Archbold, a son of Charles J. and Sophie (Rupp) Grieser, and married Betty Coy on Aug. 2, 1953.

A lifelong resident of the Archbold area, he owned and operated Promised Land Insurance in Stryker and also owned and operated Grieser Trucking at Archbold.

He worked with the Bill Glass Prison Ministry, was in lay ministry at CCNO, and Transport for Christ. He was a member of Gideons International.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; one son, Jerry (Jill) Grieser of Archbold; two daughters, Judy (Curtis) Nofziger and Janna (Sam D.) Short, both of Archbold; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Paul E. (Evelyn) Grieser of Archbold, Willard "Bill" (Marilyn) Grieser of Wauseon, and Glen (Karen) Grieser of Hamilton, Ind.; three sisters, Lueen Riegsecker and Virginia (Kenneth E.) Lee, both of Archbold, and Berneda (Dean) Wyse of West Unity.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Edward Riegsecker.

Memorial services were held on Saturday at 11 am at the Archbold Evangelical Mennonite Church with Pastor Don Harris and Rev. Charles Zimmerman officiating. Interment preceded in the Pettisville Cemetery.

Short Funeral Home in Archbold was in charge of the arrangements. The family suggests that memorials be given to Gideons International.
