Connection Dan Borcherdt, a 2005 AHS graduate and son of Bob and Judy Borcherdt, played all but 25 seconds in Mount Vernon Nazarene University's 82-74 victory in the first round of the Hope (Mich.) College Holiday Classic, Friday, Dec. 28. The Cougars shook off the rust of a 20-day layoff and rallied from a 15-point second-half deficit to defeat Purdue University North Central (Ind.). A pair of three-pointers by Borcherdt capped off an 11-0 spurt in the first half to lead 23- 19. The AHS grad led MVNU with nine points in the first half as he went three-for-three from beyond the arc. Borcherdt finished with 16 points and a game high six assists as he went four-for-five from three-point range. MVNU suffered its first loss of the season 96-77 to Hope College in the championship game, Saturday, Dec. 29. Borcherdt scored 20 points and grabbed four rebounds in the loss. Hope College is ranked eighth in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division III. MVNU, ranked seventh in the NCAA's Div.
