Service Center Names New Superintendent

Darren Jenkins
Darren Jenkins, a former teacher, high school principal, and school district superintendent, took over as superintendant of the Northwest Ohio Educational Service Center, Jan. 1.

The service center is the result of a combination for the former county boards of education of Fulton, Defiance, Henry, and Williams counties. The center provides support services to schools in the four counties.

Jenkins, who lives in Defiance, was originally from Minford, Ohio, which is 14 miles from Portsmouth in Scioto County.

He served as a teacher, coach, assistant high school principal, a high school principal, school district superintendent, and later was superintendent of the South Central Ohio Education Service Center in Portsmouth.

He has completed college coursework and degrees at Ohio Wesleyan, Marshall University, Ashland University, and the University of Kentucky. He is working toward a doctorate degree.

He replaced John Wilhelm, who is retiring. He held the NwOESC superintendent position since 1997.
