Tattered, Torn Flags Are Disrespectful

Veterans Day was Tuesday, Nov. 11. It honors the men and women who bravely fought for and died defending our country, freedoms, and way of life.

Flying a U.S. flag shows respect to our country and the men and women who kept us free.

Flying a tattered and torn flag does not. It is disrespectful to our brave veterans. It's an insult to citizens.

The Flag Code states: The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.

Is the flag you're flying ripped, faded, or worn out? It's time to display a new one.

Contact an American Legion member to pick up the old one. They will dispose of it properly and with respect.

Veterans fought for our great American freedoms. Be respectful to them and display a flag in good condition.
