Streaks Make History
AHS Golf Team Advances To State
      The Archbold High School golf team made history, Thursday, Oct. 2, advancing to the state tournament for the first time ever. The Streaks finished third at the Division III district meet in Bowling Green. Lima Central Catholic won the district championship with a team score of 314. Minster finished second with a 324. Archbold was six strokes back with a 330.

Div. III, IV Sectional Volleyball Matchups
      As the final regular-season games are played, matchups for the Division III and IV sectional volleyball tournaments have been drawn. Archbold hosts the Div. III sectional and district semifinal tournaments, where Evergreen (13-3) received the number one seed, and Archbold (13-7) is seeded second.

      Tournament sites and pairings for Division II and III soccer tournaments have been announced. Archbold received the third seed in the Div. II girls sectional and district tournaments at Ottawa-Glandorf. Liberty-Benton is seeded number one.

Div. III Cross Country District At Ottawa Park
      Archbold and Pettisville will run in the Division III cross country meet at Ottawa Park in Ottawa, Saturday, Oct. 18. The PHS boys team is seeded seventh. Delta is seeded number one; Hilltop is seeded second and Fayette is third. The Birds and the AHS boys will run in the District 1 race at 1:15 p.m.

Blue Streaks Keep Perfect Record With 35-7 Victory Over Panthers
      The Archbold Blue Streaks, under John Downey, head football coach, upped their record to 7-0 and their Northwest Ohio Athletic League mark to 5-0 with a 35-7 win over visiting Delta, Friday, Oct. 3. Opening with 21 unanswered points in the first quarter, AHS picked up the win, marking the first time since 2002 that the Streaks have opened with seven straight wins.

Streaks Stay Perfect In NWOAL At 6-0
      The Archbold and Evergreen volleyball teams set up a possible showdown for the Northwest Ohio Athletic League title last week after both upped their league records to 6-0. The Streaks beat Delta 25-15, 25-15, 26-24, Tuesday, Sept. 30. The Vikings beat Bryan 25-18, 25-16, 25-9.

      The Archbold girls soccer team won a match and tied one last week. The Streaks bested Cardinal Stritch 8-0, Monday, Sept. 29. AHS tied Lake 3-3, Saturday, Oct. 4. AHS 8, Cardinal Stritch 0 The Streaks showed their domination against Cardinal Stritch.

AHS Girls Tennis Falls In Sectional Tournament
      Members of the Archbold girls tennis team participated in the Division II sectional tournament at Archbold, Thursday, Oct. 2. In the first round of singles competition, Jessanna Buschur defeated Tiell of Maumee 6-4, 6-3; Emily Fredrick defeated Penn-Todd of Maumee Valley Country Day 6-1, 6-2; and Molly Arnold defeated Chao of MVCD 7-5, 6-2.

AHS Boys Cross Country Fifth At Antwerp Invite
      The Archbold boys cross country teams placed fifth out of 10 teams in the Antwerp Cross Country Invitational, Saturday Oct. 4. The Blue Streaks finished with 110 points. Tinora won with a score of 67. Second was Fairview with 86; Antwerp also had 86 but placed third.

Pettisville Soccer Celebrates Senior Day With Victory
      The Pettisville soccer team had a rough week last week, dropping two games but winning on Senior Day. First on the Blackbirds' schedule were the Ottawa Hills Green Bears on Tuesday, Sept. 30, a game which Pettisville lost 7-0. Lenawee Christian, a school from Michigan, played the Birds Thursday, Oct. 2. Pettisville had a goal disallowed and LC won 1-0.

Borton, Hostetler Win BBC Jamboree Races
      Pettisville runners Austin Borton and Tanner Hostetler won their respective races at the second Buckeye Border Conference Cross Country Jamboree at the Stryker Golf Course, Tuesday, Sept. 30. Borton posted a time of 16 minutes, 36 seconds to claim the top boys spot. At the first BBC meet, Borton was third behind Hilltop's Cody Livensparger and Stryker's Kenny Graber.

Bird Volleyball Wins Three, Ups Record To 12-6
      The Pettisville volleyball team raised its record to 12-6, 7-1 in the Buckeye Border Conference with wins over Montpelier, Stryker, and Fayette last week. The Birds traveled to Montpelier, Monday, Sept. 29, and came home with a 25-9, 25-9, 26-28, 25-17 non-league victory.

      The Archbold cross country teams traveled to Wauseon, Tuesday, Sept 30 to run a trimeet with Swanton and the Indians. Swanton won the boys race with 36 points. Wauseon was second with 42; Archbold also had 42, but finished third.

AHS JV Is 17-1 On Season
      The Archbold junior varsity volleyball team traveled to Wauseon, Tuesday, Sept. 23. Archbold prevailed 27-25 in a hard-fought first game. The Streaks were more focused in the second and won 25-16. Nicole Hurst had seven kills; Betsy and Sarah Wyse each had three. Laura Short served 10 aces; Amy Christman, four.

Coopshaw Spins, Wins Buckeye National Race
      Brett Coopshaw, 6, rural Pettisville, won the Buckeye Nationals kid kart feature after spinning out and restarting at the back of the pack. The event was held on the dirt track at Edon, Saturday, Oct. 4. From the second starting position, Coopshaw took the lead on the third lap, but spun out, bringing out a caution flag.

Kart Racing Returns To Archbold Sunday, Oct. 12
      Racing karts return to Archbold, Sunday, Oct. 12 for the Terry Henricks Mopar Classic. As in years past, an oval track will be laid out on the car dealership lot, and each class of karts will run two heat races and a feature event.

Frey Stretches Points Lead
      Danielle Frey, Pettisville, stretched her lead for the season championship in the senior econo kart racing class at the Jackson, Mich. oval track. Frey again set a fast time in qualifying, and won both heats and the feature Friday Oct. 3.

      Archbold 8th Grade Football At the annual Saturday night game, Sept. 27, the Archbold eighth grade football team hosted Bryan at Spengler Field. The Bears came hungry and mauled the Streaks 24-6. After Archbold was unable to move the ball and had to punt, Bryan began its own drive. It, too, was unable to sustain the drive and gave the ball back to the Streaks.

      Boys U-14 The Archbold Blue Streak Soccer Club Boys U-14 team hosted Defiance, Tuesday, Sept. 30. Stopper Ben Eggers scored first with a goal off the cross bar in the 10th minute after a corner kick from Caleb Liechty.
