      Archbold's first intra- and inter-village public transportation system owes its origins to teeth. Wanda Stopher, associate pastor at Central Mennonite Church, said SAM, or Share A Mile, started from the Share A Smile program.

Council Okays New Equipment For Water Treatment Plant
      Archbold Village Council agreed to spend $141,734 on a new piece of equipment for the village water treatment plant at its Monday night, Oct. 6, meeting. The device is a lime slaker. It feeds chemicals into the water treatment process at a controlled rate, said Dennis Howell, Archbold village administrator.

Nagel Receives ACT's Mary Short Award
      Melanie Nagel, longtime Archbold Community Theatre member, received the 2008 ACT Mary Short Memorial Award, Monday evening, Oct. 6. Over the years Nagel has appeared in ACT presentations, handled numerous duties off stage, and served the organization in various ways. Behind stage she helped with costumes, makeup, publicity and children productions.

Village To Plant Larger Trees In Memorial Park
      Jim Wyse, Archbold mayor, said the village street tree committee has approved purchasing larger, more mature trees to replace trees lost to the emerald ash borer. The insect, believed to have come from China in shipping crates, has been destroying ash trees in Ohio. It was first detected in 2003.

Honor Students
      Clay Nofziger and Logan Wyse, Archbold, were named to the dean's list for the August 2008 session at the University of Northwestern Ohio, Lima. Both are students in the UNOH College of Technologies. To be included, students must receive a grade point average of 3.5 or better.

Muni Tax Behind More Than 3% For The Year
      The Archbold Village Council learned revenue generated by the village municipal income tax is down about 3.23% for the year. Council was given the information during its Monday night, Oct. 6, meeting. So far in 2008, the 1.5% municipal income tax has generated $3,176,661.85. That's down $105,864.

Council Okays Scholarship
      Archbold Village Council approved a scholarship program for the Archbold Parks and Recreation Department at the Monday night, Oct. 6, meeting. Jennifer Kidder, director of Parks and Recreation, said the program will help defray the costs of some programs for lowincome families.

Sauder Village School Buildings Featured In TV Documentary
      The documentary "Days of the One Room School House" was filmed at Sauder Village during the summer of 2008 by WBGU-PBS. During a special event Monday evening, media representatives viewed the documentary. Among the many old schools shown, two are now part of Sauder Village. Old schools in Fulton, Williams, Henry, and Lucas counties are included in the TV special.

Trick Or Treat Set For Oct. 30
      The hours for ghosts and goblins to go door-to-door in Archbold, Pettisville, and Ridgeville Corners are established. All three communities will host Trick-or-Treat, Thursday, Oct. 30. Archbold is 6-7:30 pm; Pettisville, 6-7 pm; and Ridgeville, 6:30-7:30 pm.
