Blue Streaks Open Season With Two Wins, One Loss
      The Archbold volleyball team opened its season with a 25-7, 25-16, 25-14 Northwest Ohio Athletic League victory over Montpelier, Tuesday, Aug. 26. The Streaks hosted Stryker and Crestview, Saturday, Aug. 30. AHS easily beat the Panthers 25-9, 25-12, but fell to Crestview 25-19, 19-25, 18-25.

Fidler Breaks Record As AHS Thumps Bears
      The Northwest Ohio Athletic League race got underway, Friday, Aug. 29, when Archbold went to Bryan. The Golden Bears, under Travis Cooper, first-year head coach, were hoping to build on a 13-10 win over Van Wert in the first week. But the Streaks had other plans, thumping them 49- 21.

Archbold CC Runs Tri-Meet With Evergreen, Pettisville
      The Archbold cross country teams traveled to Evergreen to run a tri-meet with the Vikings and Pettisville, Tuesday, Aug. 26. Pettisville won the boys race with 21 points, followed by Archbold, 40, and Evergreen, 61. The Birds also won the girls race with 27 points followed by Evergreen, 40, and Archbold, 62.

AHS Soccer Ups Record To 3-1
      The Archbold girls soccer team defeated Napoleon and Lima Bath on the road last week to up its record to 3-1. The Streaks beat the Wildcats 5-1, Tuesday, Aug. 26. Alicia Drewes and Jessica Ramirez each scored two goals while Trisha King scored one.

Blue Streak Golfers Defeat Montpelier, Fall To Wauseon
      The Archbold golf team split a pair of Northwest Ohio Athletic League matches last week. The Streaks beat Montpelier 157-184 on a sunny day in the low 80-degree range, Monday, Aug. 25. Wauseon beat AHS by seven strokes, 153-160, on another sunny, 80-degree day, Thursday, Aug. 28.

Woolace Shoots Hole In One
      Gary Woolace, Stryker, aced the par-3, 130-yard third hole at the golf course in Stryker on Monday, Aug. 25. His club of choice was an 8-iron.

AHS Tennis Beats Wauseon
      The Archbold girls tennis team won both doubles matches and one singles match on its way to a 3-2 victory over Wauseon, Thursday, Aug. 28. The Streaks evened their record at 3-3 with the win. Singles: 1. Emily Fredrick (A) def.

Blackbird Cross Country Starts Season With Wins
      The boys and girls Pettisville cross country teams are off to great starts, with both teams winning a tri-meet at Evergreen, Tuesday, Aug. 26. The Pettisville girls won with 27 points. Evergreen had 40 and Archbold, 62. In cross country, the team score is the total of the places of each team's top five runners. The lowest score wins.

2008 Archbold Sports Hall Of Fame Inductees
      Bruce Arthur Class of 1969. Winner of 10 letters: football (3), basketball (2), baseball (3), track (2). Bruce Arthur lettered in four sports, but football was his true love. He was voted team most valuable player and named First Team All-NWOAL on both offense and defense in 1968. He was part of a district championship basketball team that went 22-2 in 1969.

      The 2008 class of the Archbold High School Athletic Hall of Fame will be honored at halftime of the Archbold-Montpelier football game, Friday, Sept. 26, and at a banquet, Saturday, Sept. 27 at Founder's Hall, Sauder Village.

PHS Volleyball Splits Week
      The Pettisville volleyball team had an even 2-2 record after a loss to Wauseon and win over Ayersville last week. The Indians won in four games, 25-23, 26-24, 12-25, 25- 11, Monday, Aug. 25. The Birds travelled to Ayersville, Thursday, Aug. 28 and came home with a five-game victory.

Pettisville Soccer Splits Week, Improves To 3-1
      The Pettisville soccer team split two games last week, putting its record at 3-1. The Miller City Wildcats sent the Birds home with a 5- 1 loss, Tuesday, Aug. 26. The Blackbirds traveled to Bryan, Thursday, Aug. 28. In a physical game, Pettisville pulled out a 3-2 victory.
