Gertrude Hitt was out of doors at her home on Gaslight Drive picking up sticks after a June 9 storm when she came across a piece of paper. That piece of paper turned out to be a cancelled check, just shy of 70 years old. Dated Oct. 7, 1938, the check, drawn on the Farmers & Merchants State Bank, was made out to Millard Merillat in the amount of $32. More ...
