Principals Excited About New Year At Pettisville

The Pettisville Local School District buses are ready to go, the school buildings are clean, and the two principals are excited for school year 2008-09 to start.

During the district school board meeting on Monday night, Aug. 11, Michael Lane, Pettisville High School principal, told board members he's excited about the coming year.

"We have a tremendous group of kids returning," he said.

He said expectations for those students will be raised, "but as resilient as our kids are, I expect them to meet those expectations."

Jason Waldvogel, elementary school principal, said the teachers have been in and are excited.

During the year, Waldvogel said the elementary school will attempt to beef up its science curriculum, using about $11,000 raised from the BIRD Walk fund-raiser. The money will be spent wisely, he said.

In an earlier interview, Steve Switzer, district superintendent, said the custodians have finished preparing the school building, and it's looking its absolute best.

Open houses for kindergarten students are Monday, Aug. 18: afternoon kindergarten students should attend from 6:30- 7:30 p.m.; morning students, from 7:30-8:30 p.m.

The elementary school (grades 1-6) will have an open house from 6:30-7:30 pm, Tuesday, Aug. 19.

School starts Wednesday, Aug. 20.
