Muni Tax Down 1.85%
      Gross receipts from the Archbold municipal income tax are down $42,115.10, or about 1.85%, for 2008 when compared to 2007. During the Monday night, July 7, Archbold Village Council meeting, council members learned total gross receipts for Jan. 1 through June 30, 2008, were $2,235,156.99, which is down from the same period of 2007.

Local Firm Wins Concrete Bid
      Heer Excavating, rural Archbold, was the winning bidder for concrete street improvements and repairs. Archbold Village Council approved the company bid at the Monday night meeting, July 7. Heer Excavating bid $173,520, or 7.7%, under the engineer's estimate of $188,000.

Y&F Cushion Mfg. Moves To Wauseon
      After five decades in Archbold, Y&F Cushion Manufacturing has been relocated to Wauseon. The company, started in 1956 by Elias Frey, was purchased by Pat Riley of Riley Tractor Parts, Wauseon. "Bob Frey called me Thanksgiving week 2004 and wanted to know if we were interested. They were selling the seat cushion business," Riley said.

County Unemployment Down Almost One Point
      Fulton County unemployment for May fell by nine-tenths (.9) of a percentage point, the largest drop in unemployment in the Four County area. The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services estimated Fulton County unemployment in April was 7.5%. In May it was estimated at 6.6%.

Local Firm Wins Insurance Bid
      Archbold Village Council selected the Beck Insurance Agency, Archbold, to provide property and casualty insurance at the Monday night, July 7, meeting. Beck agency represents The Ohio Plan. Speaking to council, Ed Leininger, chairman of the fi- nance committee, said the bid tendered by Beck Insurance was higher than that of Government Underwriters, Cleveland.
