Gisel Top Fairlawn Resident

Fannie Gisel is the April Resident of the Month at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home, Archbold.

She was born May 1, 1915 to Amandus and Malinda (Aeschliman) Short and lived a lifetime on the family farm, west of Archbold.

Fannie had six brothers and two sisters. She remembers walking or riding with the milkman to a nearby country school during all eight grades. She remembers riding to Lockport Church with horse and buggy.

Fannie said she was an outdoors girl, working in the garden and driving the horses while her dad and brothers pitched hay. She remembers when her dad got his first car, a white Abbott.

Fannie attended the Archbold High School until 10th grade, usually riding with the neighbor boys to school.

She met her future husband, Vern Gisel, at church. They were married on June 6, 1937. They had four children: Ned, Carol Short, Nadine Leithauser, and Betti Frass.

Fannie was a housewife and a member of the Zion Mennonite Church. Her husband died on June 30, 1994.

Fannie lived several years in the assisted living apartments before coming to live at Fairlawn Haven. She enjoys doing word search puzzles and playing bingo.
