Birds Fall To Streaks

The Pettisville girls basketball team hosted Archbold, Saturday, Dec. 22 for a non-league game. Giving up 23 points in the fourth quarter, the Birds lost 55-49 to fall to 6-4 on the season.
Archbold opened strong and outscored PHS 18-10 in the first quarter. Pettisville tightened its defense in the second period, holding the Streaks to six points while scoring 12 to cut the defi- cit to 24-22 at halftime.
The Birds took the lead in the third period, outscoring AHS 12-8 to take a 34-32 advantage going into the final quarter. Archbold scored 23 points in the final quarter, including converting nine of 11 free throws, and Pettisville scored only 15 points for the 55-49 final.
Erica King led PHS with 19 points. Haley Nofziger and Jodi Spotts both added 10. Pettisville was 19/48 from the field for 40% and 6/12 from the free-throw line for 50%.
Archbold's Adi Lange tied with King for scoring honors with 19 points. Dani Newman scored 16 and Abbey Graber, 12. The Streaks were 20/56 from the field for 36% and 15/18 from the line for 83%.
The Birds are off until Friday, Jan. 4, when they host North Central.
"Our ladies will work hard over break with the expectation of good things to come in the second half of the season," said Jason Waldvogel, PHS coach.
