2007: A Difficult Year

This year, 2007, was certainly one of mixed messages.

If nothing else, 2007 will be remembered as the year ConAgra, the former La Choy plant, panicked Archbold.

Out-of-town corporate officials decided to close the Archbold plant. Local management and employees, along with Archbold village government, got together to save jobs.

Through hard work, they convinced ConAgra officials that the plant should remain open. More than 300 jobs were saved.

The ConAgra victory has overshadowed some bad economic news. Cooper-Standard, the former ITT Higbie, marches toward closing in 2008. Gendron closed its Archbold plant.

Other factory buildings remain empty after closing in 2006.

For many manufacturers, it's been one of the worst economic years ever.

The Archbold outlook for 2008 may be cloudy. However, with our fine community leadership and everyone working together, Archbold can weather any storm.
