Jordan Cowell won the 128-pound weight class. "Jordan wrestled a nice tournament, defeating Kyle Ruiz from Springfield in the semifinals with a second period fall before facing league rival Jake Trejo from Wauseon, who he defeated 11-2 in a major decision," said Grant Burkholder, coach. Also winning was Zach Driver at 150 lbs. His semifinal match pitted him against Perrysburg's Luke Boff, whom Driver pinned in the first period. In the finals Driver came away with another first-period fall against Allen Boss from Oak Harbor. The Streaks had six place finishers. The others were: Ben Eggers, 80 lbs., fourth; Oliver Stuckey, 116 lbs., second; Danny Young, 122 lbs., second; Colin Dallas, 160 lbs., fourth. Archbold Middle School Wrestling Archbold took to the mats Thursday, Dec. 13, against Ayersville and Napoleon. The Streaks were unable to get any matches for their junior varsity wrestlers this week, which is very unusual for a tri match. Normally with three teams competing, the teams can match up everyone with at least one opponent. Archbold varsity defeated Ayersville and Napoleon. Against Ayersville, Archbold got matches for most of its inexperienced wrestlers. Ben Eggers, Justin Arce, Johnny Edwards and Sam Cline, all first-year wrestlers, each battled very hard; none, however, came away with a win. The only experienced AMS wrestler to win was Austin Ripke at 116 pounds; he pinned Jacob Smith with a first-period fall. All other matches were forfeits. The Streaks won 48-24. Archbold matched up better with Napoleon, but again, forfeits played a big part in the final. Oliver Stuckey pinned Nate Walker at 116 lbs. to open the match up strong. Cody Kovnesky (122 lbs.) lost 8-7 to Isaac Reed. Danny Young bumped up a weight class to 128 lbs. to help the Archbold coaches get more wrestlers more mat time. In doing so, he bumped into Napoleon's best wrestler, Skyler Anderson and was pinned in the first period. The Streaks then put together four straight pins: Jordan Cowell (134 lbs.), Tyler Rufenacht (142 lbs.), Zach Driver (160 lbs.), and Ben Eggers (86 lbs.) before losing the final match of the night at 98 lbs. Johnny Edwards was pinned in the first period by Aaron Heinrichs. All other matches were uncontested and won by forfeit. The Streaks won 57-36. Grant Burkholder and David Eicher, coaches, both said they thought the team is getting a little more aggressive, especially on their feet. This means the wrestlers are becoming more confident in what they're doing. Archbold 8th Grade Girls Basketball Archbold brought home a 42-17 victory from Fairview, Tuesday, Dec. 11.
