PHS Picks Up Two Wins

The Pettisville girls basketball team hosted two games last week, winning both.

Edgerton traveled to Pettisville for a non-league match-up Tuesday, Dec. 11. The Birds defeated the Bulldogs 51-38.

Fayette flew into the Bird Cage, Friday, Dec.14 for a Buckeye Border Conference matchup. The Birds outscored Fayette 14-3 in the fourth quarter for a 42-31 victory.

Pettisville is 6-3, 3-1 BBC.

PHS 51, Edgerton 38

Both teams came out with intensity, and PHS led 16-13 after one. Pettisville outscored Edgerton 16-8 in the second period for a 32-21 halftime lead.

The Bulldogs battled back in the third, outscoring the Birds 9-8 to cut the deficit to 10, 40- 30, going into the final quarter. PHS outscored the Bulldogs 11- 8 in the fourth for the 51-38 fi- nal.

Pettisville was 16/47 from the field for 34% and 14/29 from the charity stripe for 48%. Erica King led all scorers with 14 points. Alexa Short chipped in 11.

Edgerton was 16/37 from the field for 43% and 4/6 for 67% from the line.

"We played well in spurts tonight," said Jason Waldvogel, PHS coach. "Edgerton battled the entire game and kept us off-balance. We will continue to work hard and improve each game."

PHS 42, Fayette 31

Pettisville led 9-7 after the first quarter. Fayette clawed back in the second, outscoring the Birds 12-9 to take a 19-18 lead into the locker room.

Fayette hit a layup at the beginning of the third to take a three-point lead, but Pettisville outscored the Eagles 10-9 in the quarter to tie the score at 28 going into the fourth.

The final quarter was all Pettisville, as the Birds outscored the Eagles 14-3 for the 42-31 final.

King again led all scorers with 14 points.

Pettisville was 15/47 from the field and 9/14 from the line. Fayette was 10/36 from the field and 10/12 from the line.

"Our defense in the fourth quarter was the difference," said Waldvogel. "We seemed to float through the first three quarters."
