Birds Overcome Slow Start To Beat Fayette

The Pettisville boys basketball team traveled to Fayette for a freshman, junior varsity, and varsity tripleheader, Thursday, Dec. 13.

All came back victorious, with the varsity winning the Buckeye Border Conference match-up 68-44.

The Birds (5-0, 3-0 BBC) were down 14-13 after one quarter. In the second, the Blackbirds outscored the Eagles 17-16 for a 30-30 halftime tie.

Pettisville came out on fire in the second half, going on a 20-0 run in the first seven minutes of the third quarter and taking a 54-35 lead going into the final quarter.

Pettisville outscored Fayette 14-9 in the fourth for a 68-44 final.

Michael Deffely led the Birds with 17 points. Alex Frey chipped in 13; Michael Haase and Josh Bruner each added 11.

PHS was 28/55 from the field for 51% and had 32 rebounds and only seven turnovers. Fayette was 16/33 from the field for 48% and had 23 turnovers and 20 rebounds.

PHS was 8/19 from the foul line for 42%; Fayette was 7/13 for 54%.
