Parks Department Plants Buckeye And Oak Trees In Woodland Park

The Archbold Parks and Recreation Department planted buckeye and oak trees in Woodland Park, Jennifer Kidder, Parks and Recreation director, said at the Tuesday, Dec. 11 meeting.

Kidder said she told park board that the tree board had asked that the two types be planted because relatively few remain in the village.

She said all the landscape plantings have been finished in Woodland Park, including replanting some trees. Because the project is finished, she will apply for reimbursement from the State of Ohio. The village obtained a NatureWorks grant to fund the planting.

Kidder said work at Memorial Park, including replacing asphalt and installing concrete walkways around the concession stand, was going well until bad weather.

"The asphalt part is complete," she said. The concrete will be finished when conditions allow. Next spring, cracks will be filled, and a final coat of asphalt applied.

Kidder requested $14,185 from the board to repaint the Archbold Swimming Pool.

BMW Painting, Wauseon, offered to sandblast and paint the bottom, apply a primer, and paint lane marker stripes. Only the bottom of the pool is painted; the sidewalls are stainless steel.

Kidder said she requested one quote, because the last time work was done, other contractors refused. BMW did the work and did a good job, she said.

Children's basketball starts Jan. 14, 2008. Kidder said she will start meetings to set little league and traveling softball schedules in February.
