Nagel Intends To Retire From Prosecutor Position

Roger Nagel
Roger Nagel, Fulton County prosecuting attorney, said he intends to retire from the office of Fulton County prosecutor.

His current term, his first as county prosecutor, ends in January 2009.

Nagel said he has not decided exactly what he will do upon leaving office. He might go back into private practice, he said.

Contenders for the Republican and Democratic primaries must file their petitions by Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2007.

Nagel has worked in the county prosecuting attorney office since 1981.

William Swigart, who had been prosecuting attorney since 1978, announced his retirement, effective at the end of March 2004.

Nagel entered the March 4, 2004 Republican primary running against Jeffrey Robinson, then Wauseon City law director. Nagel defeated Robinson 3,994-2,116.

On April 1, 2004, the Fulton County Commissioners named Nagel the acting prosecuting attorney. Later, after action by the Fulton County Republican Central Committee, he was appointed to the post.

In the November 2004 general election, Nagel defeated Gary Poorman, who ran for the prosecutor's job as an independent candidate. Nagel received 12,487 votes to Poorman's 7,174.
