German Township Zoning Hearings Are Scheduled

The German Township Board of Zoning Appeals will hold a meeting Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at 6:30 pm to consider two conditional use permits.

One permit is to allow Steve and Debra Allen, 3255 Co. Rd. 21, to temporarily place a mobile home on their property.

Linda Lauber, German Township zoning inspector, told the German Township Trustees at their Monday night, Dec. 10, meeting, that the Allens' home was damaged by a fire.

The permit allows the mobile home to be temporarily placed on the property for six months while repairs are made. The permit was approved by Steve Brown, Fulton County regional planning director, and the mobile home is already in place.

The second permit is for Laurel and Janet Baer, 7090 Co. Rd. 24.

Lauber said the Baers want to install a pond for recreational purposes. The pond will cover 1 1/4 acres. Any pond over threequarters of an acre must be approved by the zoning board, she said.

Plowing, Salting

The trustees also discussed their snow plowing and road salting policy.

The question before them was whether township residents who hold "essential" jobs should have their roads plowed before others.

Randy Ruffer, president of the trustees, said agreeing to plow one person's road first would open a can of worms, as more and more people would declare their jobs as "essential."

The trustees decided to maintain their current policy of plowing and salting major roads first.

They also declined to set hard and fast rules concerning when roads will be plowed, preferring instead to leave such decisions to the township's maintenance workers.

Pay Hike

In a previous meeting, Yoder said the trustees opted to give Dan Leininger, road superintendent, and Josh King, road maintenance worker, an average pay raise of 2.5%. There were no changes to their health insurance packages.

The next meeting of the German Township Trustees is Thursday, Dec. 27, 9 am. Ruffer will be absent.

The trustees will have their 2008 organizational meeting Monday, Jan. 7, following the zoning board meeting.

All trustees were present, along with Kenneth "Skip" Leupp, who will take over Andy King's seat as a German Township Trustee.
