4-Car Collision On St. Rt. 66, Nov. 26

A mechanical problem caused four cars to collide on St. Rt. 66 around 7:17 am, Monday, Nov. 26.

A Fulton County Sheriff Department report states the problem occurred in a northbound pickup, causing driver Ben F. Ashbaugh, 19, West Unity, to slow to a stop on the highway.

Another northbound vehicle, driven by Leonides Mendez, 40, Fayette, stopped behind the Ashbaugh pickup.

Behind the Mendez car, vehicles driven by David E. Town, 54, Pittsford, Mich., and Kirk D. Thompson, 46, West Unity, were unable to stop. They respectively collided with the rear bumpers of the cars in front.

The incident occurred twotenths (.2) of a mile north of Co. Rd. E. There were no injuries,

and no citations.

Aaron M. Baynes, 34, Archbold, was cited for failure to control a motor vehicle at around 1:50 am, Monday, Nov. 26.

The FCSD report states he fell asleep at the wheel while driving west on Co. Rd. B and lost control of his car about threetenths (.3) of a mile east of Co. Rd. 21.

The car went left the roadway and struck a tree stump, causing property damage.

The following day, an FCSD report states a minivan driven by Dawn M. Rupp, 40, rural Wauseon, left the right side of the roadway at 7:47 am while traveling on St. Rt. 2.

Rupp, uninjured, was not cited.

Drew O. Schaffner, 16, Wauseon, was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead after a propertydamage auto mishap at 5:18 pm, Wednesday, Nov. 21.

A westbound pickup driven by June A. Eicher, 66, Archbold, was stopped on US20A about 50 feet east of St. Rt. 108.

A FCSD report states the Schaffner car, traveling behind, struck the rear bumper of the Eicher vehicle.

Also involved in the incident was Rachel Eicher, 38, Archbold, a passenger in the Eicher truck.

Another FCSD report states a deer crossing the road struck the driver-side door of a vehicle driven by Andrew M. Smith, 32, Tipton, Mich., later that day, at 6:15 p.m. Smith was driving north on Co. Rd. 16 when the incident occurred about one-tenth (.1) of a mile north of Co. Rd. M.

He was uninjured.
