Letter To The Editor The impasse between the school board and the AEA looks bleak. The board says it is "very sensitive to the importance of maintaining exceptional teachers for our children." The AEA president said, "Our issues are not totally about money. We as educators are not looking to break the bank." Concern for the taxpayer is missing. I do not mean platitudes as a substitute for substantive efforts on behalf of the taxpayer. I mean bottom line results, which reflect their efforts to perform for district taxpayers. In my opinion, the board president admitted they have overpaid for the product delivered and the AEA president has admitted that he views the taxpayers as a bank. Of course, what he really means is that the district taxpayers are, in reality, indentured servants to the neverending demands of the teacher's union that plays upon the politically expedient slogan, "it's for the children." Teachers use the slogan for gaining additional income and benefits while the school board uses the same slogan for gaining access to the bond market. I propose a solution that will demonstrate real concern for the taxpayer by stopping the multiple efforts of the school board and AEA to find new ways to separate the taxpayer and his hard-earned money. I suggest that the taxpayers outsource the school board and all of the teacher's positions to a company like Wal-Mart. You gain an efficient and experienced management team that rarely overpays for anything. The impasse would be broken because the AEA would recognize what so many other laborers in America already understand: Wal-Mart has a global reach. I would think the AEA would be more concerned about staying employed rather than being outsourced on a global scale. As for the school board- perhaps they could be greeters! One thing is for sure, the taxpayers would be better served than the weak-kneed behavior of the so-called management and the pampered pooches of the AEA. H.E. Osborne Bryan |
