The Archbold girls soccer team won three games and tied one in its first two weeks of action. The Streaks started the season Tuesday, Aug. 21, hosting Springfield. The first game was not an easy one, but Archbold came out on top 5-4. More ... Gene Goering connected on a blistering 18 of 24 attempts for a record-setting 458 yards and five touchdowns, and Jimmy Dunning caught a record-setting 93-yard touchdown pass as Archbold coasted to a 48-27 Northwest Ohio Athletic League victory over visiting Bryan, Friday, Aug. 31. More ... The Archbold eighth grade volleyball team defeated Fairview 25-23, 19-25, 25- 20, Thursday, Aug. 30. "The girls played very nervous," said Dina Gladieux, coach. "The first three servers served off the far wall. Once they calmed down and got their serves, they began playing Archbold-style volleyball. Morgan Cody did a super job serving in game one. More ... The Archbold girls tennis team dropped a 4-1 match at Ottawa Hills, Thursday, Aug. 30 to fall to 0-3 on the season. The second doubles team of Rachel Krueger and Nichole Short was the only match winner for AHS. More ... The Archbold golf team beat Montpelier and Pettisville last week, but lost a close match to Wauseon to leave their record at 3-1 on the young season. The Streaks won a tri-match with the Locos and Birds with a team score of 165, Monday, Aug. 27. The Locos finished with a 199, while Pettisville scored a 212. More ... The Pettisville varsity soccer team started its season, Monday, Aug. 20, with a 9-1 win at Rossford. The Birds traveled to Toledo to face Maumee Valley Country Day, Thursday, Aug. 23, and came home with a 4-1 victory. To finish their first week, the Blackbirds traveled to Anthony Wayne to do battle with the Generals, but lost 7-0. More ... The Archbold cross country teams opened their 2007 seasons with a tri-match against Evergreen and Pettisville, Tuesday, Aug. 28. PHS won the boys race with a low score of 18 points. Archbold was second with 47; Evergreen had 63. More ... The Archbold volleyball team went 3-0 the first week of the regular season. AHS easily won the season and league opener at Montpelier, 25-11, 25-18, 25-11, Tuesday, Aug. 28. The Streaks play a nonleague tri-match at Stryker with Crestview, Saturday, Sept. 1. The win over the Panthers took only two games, 25- 10, 25-13. More ... The Pettisville varsity volleyball team dropped two matches last week to fall to 1-3 on the season. The Birds lost at Wauseon 17-25, 15-25, 13-25, Monday, Aug. 27. PHS hosted Ayersville, Thursday, Aug. 30, and dropped a 16-25, 8-25, 18-25 match. More ... The Pettisville girls and boys cross country teams defeated Archbold and Evergreen to take home victories at the first meet of the 2007 season, Tuesday, Aug. 28 Runners on all three teams struggled due to weather conditions on a hot afternoon when the local thermometers showed temperatures topping 90 degrees. More ... The Pettisville golf team was winless last week in four league and non-league matches. The Blackbirds lost both ends of a tri-match with Montpelier and Archbold at Wauseon, Monday, Aug. 27. Archbold won the match with a team score of 165. Montpelier totaled 199, while Pettisville had a 212. More ... The Archbold Blue Streaks youth soccer club, formerly Black Swamp, kicked off its fourth year with three girls teams and seven boys teams ranging in age from 9-and-under to 18-and-under. The 10 teams feature 119 players, with most seasonopening matches occurring after Labor Day. More ... |
