Bud Hitt, 83, Archbold, who is retired, remembers what a sharpshooter his wife Gertrude was with a bow and arrow. Bud and Gert specialized in building bows and arrows for many years in Archbold. Their product was in demand from all corners of the world.

New Cost Estimates For Pettisville School

For the owner of a home valued at $100,000 in the Pettisville Local School District, the cost of a new school building would be about $20 per month, or $240 a year. That's if the Pettisville School Board opts to pay back bonds with a property tax, not an income tax, or a combination of the two.

Barber Leaves GOP Post; Lumbrezer Fills Role

The Archbold Area School Board was introduced to a plan to reclassify some of its property tax revenue as permanent improvement funds. David Deskins, district superintendent, told board members during the Monday night, July 21, meeting the goal of the move would be to create a permanent improvement fund.

Archbold Village Council voted to seek bids for two new projects at its Monday night, July 21, meeting. The board approved a call for bids for resurfacing the roadway and paved areas around the village wastewater treatment plant.

Viola Aeschliman, age 94 years, of Wauseon, passed away early Wednesday morning, July 16, 2008 at the Fulton County Health Center in Wauseon. She was born Feb. 25, 1914 near Archbold, a daughter of Samuel and Katie (Nofziger) Sauder. She married Omar Aeschliman on Nov. 5, 1933, and he preceded her in death in 1972.

Betty L. Blair, 84, of Wauseon, passed away Wednesday evening, July 16, 2008 at the Defi- ance Area Inpatient Hospice. Betty was first a wife and mother, but had also worked as a custodian for the former Evangelical Mennonite Church in Wauseon for many years.

Katherine B. Frey, age 88 years, of Archbold, passed away early Saturday morning, July 19, 2008, at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold. She was born May 11, 1920 in Archbold to Peter and Emma (Nofziger) Eicher. She married Elias H. Frey on May 11, 1939, and he preceded her in death on March 3, 2001.

Wanda J. Weber, 84, rural Pettisville, died July 16, 2008 at Fulton County Health Center, Wauseon. Survivors include one brother, Stanley (Dolly) Weber, Rossford. A funeral service was Monday, followed by a cremation service.

No Bicycles On Downtown Sidewalks

It's the law. Bicycles are prohibited on sidewalks in the historic district of downtown Archbold. The same is true for skateboards, roller skates, and scooters. Mixing bicycles, skateboards, and scooters traveling at high speeds, and dodging people on foot, is highly dangerous.

Ten Years Ago Wednesday, July 22, 1998 A new circulation record for adult fiction was set for the Archbold Community Library during June. Joyce Klingelsmith, library director, said 2,243 adult fiction books were circulated. She said the pesky roof leak has been repaired.

Crystal Huffman, Archbold, and Thomas Street, Warren, exchanged wedding vows at 5:30 p.m., Dec. 29, 2007, at Founder's Hall, Archbold. Allen Rutter was the officiating pastor. Alexandrea Hogan presented the music. The bride wore a strapless white A-line organza and tulle gown with a chapel train, accented with vertical ruffles, beading, and lace.

Rupp, Steiner To Wed In September

Jennifer Rupp, Goshen, Ind., daughter of Gary and Audrey, Pettisville, and LaMont Steiner, Goshen, son of Dean and Prudy, Dalton, Ohio, have announced their engagement. The bride-elect is a 2002 Pettisville High School graduate. She graduated from Goshen College in 2006 with a bachelor's degree in communication.

Rupps Celebrate 50th Anniversary

Gene and Nancy (Rowley) Rupp were married on July 26, 1958, in the First Alliance Church of Toledo with William Bryan and H.E. Bertsche the offi ciating pastors. They met at Taylor University, Upland, Ind., where both are graduates. Gene retired after 30 years in public education, 20 as Archbold High School principal and 14 years as vice president of Taylor University.

Girl Gives Hair

Lyndsay Gladieux, 5 1/2 years old, Archbold, decided to donate her hair to Locks of Love, an organization that uses human hair to create wigs for children who have lost their hair due to illness, or as a side effect of the treatment of their illness. Music was in the air at the Black Swamp Arts Council Creative Arts Camp, July 14-18 at the Archbold Middle School. Youngsters formed a line to sing the chorus of their song about looking for rain forest animals. The theme this year was "Amazing Art Adventure In The Amazon Rain Forest." Bill Degler, 212 Rosewood Court, told Archbold police several mailboxes in his neighborhood were vandalized sometime between 11:30 pm, Saturday, July 12 and 7 am, Sunday, July 13. A mailbox at 221 Rosewood Court, owned by Vaughn Bentz, was damaged; two others were tampered with.

Genia Gaucher, East Gardens, told Archbold Police she had been the victim of telecommunications harassment between 12:11 am, Thursday, July 11 and 2:11 pm that same day. The Archbold police report states officers spoke with both Gaucher and a suspect. The suspect was advised that if the calls continued, she would be charged.

Woman Reports Possible Scam

Jade Poucher, East Gardens, told police Friday, July 18, that recently someone may have attempted to use her as part of a scam. The Archbold police report said Poucher has been chatting over the Internet with a person from Nigeria for about 10 years.

Youth Injured In Moped Mishap

Jordan E. Cowell, 15, rural Archbold, was treated and released at the Archbold Hospital after he was involved in a crash on a moped about 11 pm, Friday, July 11. The Archbold Police report on the crash states Cowell was riding his moped west in the 900 block of West Holland Street when he struck the rear of a parked car owned by Michael Meyer, rural Archbold.

King Wins Second Straight Run For Lights Title

Darin King, a 2006 Archbold High School graduate, won the annual Run for the Lights 5K race in Archbold for the second straight year, Saturday morning, July 19. He crossed the finish line in 17 minutes, 35 seconds. King said he had knee surgery on May 9, but his physicians said he was ready to run.

Pony League

Archbold Pony Leaguers recently won the Defiance 13-14- year-old tourney. The tourney consisted of pool play followed by a single elimination tournament. The Streaks lost to Tinora and defeated the Defiance Colt team in pool play. Archbold then defeated Fairview, Tinora, and Anthony Wayne to claim the tourney title.
