Edgerton Beats Birds 56-52, Advances To District Final
      The Pettisville boys basketball team was defeated by Edgerton 56-52 last night, Tuesday, March 9, in a Division IV district semifinal at Napoleon High School. The Bulldogs play Wayne Trace for the district championship, Friday, March 12, 7 p.m., at NHS. The Raiders defeated North Central 55-36 in last night's first semifinal.

Tigers No Match For Archbold In Sectional Final
      Leading 14-4 after the first period, Archbold cruised to a 59-29 victory over Liberty Center to win a Division III sectional boys basketball championship at Defiance High School, Friday, March 5. Archbold went on a 10-2 run over the last 5:46 of the first period for a 14-4 lead.

Tinora Beats AHS For District Title
      Tinora didn’t score a single field goal in the fourth quarter, but that didn’t stop the Rams from winning the Division III district girls basketball championship, Saturday, March 6 at Napoleon. Converting 26 of 32 foul shots, including 13 of 18 in the fourth quarter, Tinora turned a 28-25 third period lead into a 41-35 victory over Archbold in the district fi- nal.

Galvan’s Shot Lifts Streaks Past Fort Recovery
      A basket by Hailey Galvan with 19 seconds left lifted Archbold to a 56-55 victory over Fort Recovery in a Division III district semifinal at Napoleon, Thursday, March 4. A quick start by both teams resulted in a 21-17 Indians lead after one period. Two foul shots by Nicole Hurst with 57.4 seconds left brought Archbold within one, 32-31, at the half.

Smith 17th All Around At State
      The state gymnastics tournament was conducted at Hilliard Bradley High School in Columbus, Friday, March 5 and Saturday, March 6. Kinsey Smith, a freshman at Archbold High School, placed 17th all around with a total of 35.5 points.

      Pettisville (13-9) won its fourth consecutive boys basketball sectional championship, Friday, March 5, beating Stryker 43-41. Pettisville got into the sectional final by beating Montpelier 75-52, Wednesday, March 3. PHS 75, Montpelier 52

Birds Beat Stryker In Girls District Semifinal
      Pettisville held off Stryker 37-31 to win their Division IV district girls basketball semifinal, Thursday, March 4 at Archbold High School. The Birds led 5-0 after one, 14-10 at the half, and 22-17 after three. The Panthers came within one, 28-27, with 3:57 left. Erica King sank a three-pointer to raise the difference to 31-27.

      Jared Avina, PHS ‘09, will push for time in the outfield on the Hesston (Kan.) College baseball team this season. The Larks opened the 2010 campaign with 19-2 and 8-1 wins in a home doubleheader against Bethany College JV (Lindsborg, Kan.) Wednesday, Feb. 17. They also won two, 4-0 and 9-1, from York (Neb.) College junior varsity, Sunday, Feb. 28.
