Beck Retires From Pettisville School
     Mary Lou Beck, a Pettisville elementary school teacher, will retire at the end of the school year. Members of the Pettisville School Board accepted her resignation at their Monday, March 8 meeting.

Council Prepares For Next Winter
     With patches of snow and ice still on the ground, Archbold Village Council took a step for preparing for next winter at its Monday, March 1 meeting. Council granted permission for Dennis Howell, village administrator, to enter into a contract to purchase ice-melting road salt through the Ohio Department of Transportation contract.

Railroad Grant Sidetracked
     The Regional Port Authority of Northwest Ohio has failed in its attempt to purchase a railroad. The port authority had applied for a $95.8 million federal grant to purchase and repair the Maumee & Western Railroad. The deal would have included improvement of 51 miles of track, from Woodburn, Ind., to Liberty Center.

      In spite of a bleak economy, Ohio topped the nation in one economic development indicator. Ohio won Site Selection magazine’s Governor’s Cup for 2009, as the state with the most new or expanded private-sector capital projects during the year.
