Archbold 8th Grade Boys Basketball
Archbold played undefeated Tinora, Tuesday, Jan. 8. The Streaks came home victorious with a come-from-behind 40- 35 win. The teams played to a 9-9 firstquarter deadlock. The Rams outscored the Streaks 13-5 in the second to take a 22-14 lead.
The Streaks kept the Rams in check in the third with an 8-7 advantage and were down 29-22, setting up the fourth quarter comeback. Luke Kammeyer began the fourth with a quick basket. The Streaks went to their full-court press, creating many turnovers, and went on a scoring spurt, outscoring Tinora 18-6 to take home the win. Kammeyer scored 12 in the quarter and led the Streaks with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Tanner Wyse added 8 points. Hayden Stamm had 5 rebounds and 4 points.
"We showed a lot of guts in the fourth quarter," said Brian Ziegler, coach. "The whole team responded well, being down most of the game and never giving up. It was an exciting win."
Archbold hosted Patrick Henry, Thursday, Jan. 10, and improved to 8-1 with a 35-24 victory. The Streaks outscored PH 11-4 in the first quarter. The second turned into a defensive battle as PH outscored the Streaks 6- 5. Archbold held a 16-10 lead at the break.
Both offenses gained momentum as Archbold outscored the Patriots 12-9 in the third, led by Kammeyer's 6 points and 2 each from T.J. Gerken, Stamm, and Nate Rodriguez, pushing the lead at the end of three to 28-19.
In the fourth, the Streak defense held PH to two baskets for the victory. "This was our third game of the week, and to come out 3-0 says a lot about how hard the kids have worked," said Ziegler. "We did a nice job against three quality opponents." Stamm led the Streaks with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Kammeyer had 10 points and 5 rebounds; Gerken and Wyse chipped in with 6 and 5 points, respectively. |
