     Pettisville won its first girls basketball district championship in school history, Saturday, March 6 when the Blackbirds defeated Toledo Christian 37-20 in the district final. Consolidation Of Ohio Schools Unpopular Here

      A report issued by two think tanks that call for the reduction in the number of Ohio school districts has drawn criticism from two area school superintendents. “If the idea is making something better by making it bigger, I thought we threw that out with the wash water years ago,” said Steve Switzer, Pettisville Local School District superintendent.

Wind Turbine Funding Unclear
      So far, the Archbold and Pettisville school districts have a “handshake” guarantee that they’re each going to receive $750,000 in grant funding to pay for commercial grade wind turbines. That’s what both school boards learned at a joint meeting held Monday, March 1, at the Sauder Manufacturing conference room.

      The Ohio School Facilities Commission delayed bidding for the new Pettisville School building. Members of the Pettisville School Board met in special session, Friday, March 5, to approve bidding documents and to approve advertising for bids for construction of the new school building.

      Archbold may be giving up its infamous bell-shaped bollards, after another one was destroyed Friday, March 5. “We are looking at different options,” said Bob Seaman, Archbold village engineer, Monday. Fernando M. Lasso, 51, Davenport, Iowa, was driving a semi owned by Crete Carrier Corp, Lincoln, Neb. at about 2:57 pm, Friday.

Fulton County Historical Society Prepares Civil War Commemoration
      Fulton County Historical Society will take part in Ohio’s commemoration of the Civil War with its own program, “Hell & The Homefront: Civil War through Fulton County Eyes.” John Swearingen, Jr., director of the historical society and the society’s scholar, said the program is a five-year project, including exhibits and education programs.
